Fascination Lenau

The composer, conductor and oboist Heinz Holliger and baritone Christian Gerhaher can be experienced in February in portrait concerts on our studio stage.

The premiere of Heinz Holliger's new music theater work «Lunea» casts its shadow ahead. Before going on stage at the opera house on the 4th of March, two key artists will be performing in concert: on the 17th of February, the Ensemble Opera nova (composed of members of the Philharmonia Zürich) will perform works by Heinz Holliger, Sándor Veress, György Ligeti and György Kurtág - all composers who are important to Holliger's work. Holliger himself will lead the concert on the Studiobühne of the opera house and will also be heard as an oboist.

In another concert on the Studiobühne, the world-famous baritone Christian Gerhaher introduces himself to the audience. Gerhaher plays the lead role in Holliger's new opera, which deals with the fascinating romantic poet Nikolaus Lenau. Accompanied by his well-known piano partner Gerold Huber, he sings Robert Schumann's Lieder op. 90 on the 7th of February on poems by Nikolaus Lenau, and then talks about his artistic work in an interview with Claus Spahn.
